10/20/15:

Newton Tree Conservancy's Fall 2015 Community Tree Plantings are in just four weeks, on Saturday morning, November 14. (Really bad weather/hurricane date November 15.) We will start at 8:30 or 9am (may vary by location), and hopefully finish by the usual time of 11 or 11:30am, although we are planting many more trees than usual -- about 80 planned on the 14th (with another dozen or so during training a week earlier).

We will be planting on Russell Road and its side streets in West Newton, Clark/Halcyon/Stearns in Newton Centre, Solon Street in Newton Highlands, Oxford Road in Newton Centre, and in the Woodlawn Drive neighborhood in Chestnut Hill. Once again, this will be our busiest planting day yet, so volunteer help will be especially needed.

As usual, homeowners receiving trees are participating, but we greatly appreciate help from past tree recipients and our members if you are available. Please let me know if you are definitely, probably, or possibly, able to help, and also whether you would be available on the alternate morning of November 15. (We've never needed to go the the alternate date, but it's tempting fate not to plan for the possibility.)
It's also helpful to know if:
-- this would be your first time at a tree planting
-- you would prefer a non-physical task (like standing back to make sure the tree is straight as others fill the hole)
-- you would be bringing anyone else to help (e.g. teenage son or daughter)
-- you prefer a particular location. (If no preference, I try to send people to a location that's near where they live.)

Also, FYI, Tree Planting class for representatives of the five groups will be 9am Saturday morning, November 7, in the Russell Road neighborhood (exact meeting point TBD). Space is limited in order to give everyone some hands-on practice, but if anyone not in one of the groups, who plans to help on Planting Day, would like to attend, please let me know.

Thank you!
